Fall Fire Safety Tips

The cooler weather has arrived and we love cooking, lighting those candles and spending time around the fire pit. But all of these activities can lead to a fire hazard.  Take a look at these fall fire safety tips to help keep your season enjoyable and safe for your friends and family.

-Change your smoke alarm battery (we recommend changing them every fall and spring when changing the clocks for Daylight Savings Time.

-Check fire extinguishers to make sure they have the correct amount of pressure

-Get your chimney inspected each year to make sure that it is safe.

-Establish and practice a fire escape plan with your family that includes a designated meeting area outside the home.

-Do not leave candles burning when you go to sleep.

-Don't leave cooking food unattended on the stove.

-Clear your roof and gutters of unnecessary build up of debris, such as pine needles and leaves

-Learn the outdoor burning regulations in your area, and do not engage in illegal burning of leaves and other outdoor debris

-Keep a 3 feet "kid free"zone around any fire pit, candle or space heater.

-Keep flammable items such as wooden spoons, pot holders, towels and paper towels away from the stove.
